Dennis Martire Expands Labor Leadership Beyond Traditional Union Roles

Strong labor leadership often extends beyond contract negotiations and workplace advocacy. Dennis Martire has demonstrated this throughout his career by contributing to organizations that influence workforce development, transportation planning, labor-management cooperation, and public policy. As Vice President and Mid-Atlantic Regional Manager for the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA), he has broadened the impact of organized labor through active engagement in initiatives that benefit workers across multiple industries.
Martire joined LIUNA in 1990 as a member of Local Union #1058 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His early experience as an international representative handling jurisdictional disputes helped him develop expertise in labor relations while building strong connections with union members, employers, and industry leaders. Those experiences laid the groundwork for a leadership approach focused on long-term solutions and collaborative decision-making.
Following his election as Vice President and Mid-Atlantic Regional Manager in 2002, Martire assumed responsibility for overseeing union operations across several states. At the same time, he expanded his involvement in organizations that address workforce investment, education, transportation infrastructure, and labor-management cooperation. His participation allows labor perspectives to be represented during discussions that shape employment opportunities and regional economic growth.
Martire also serves on multiple labor trusts and education-related organizations that help oversee worker benefits, training initiatives, and labor standards. By contributing to these efforts, he supports programs that improve workforce readiness while ensuring union members have access to resources that promote long-term career stability and professional development.
Rather than limiting his focus to day-to-day union administration, Dennis Martire recognizes that many workforce challenges are connected to broader public policy and infrastructure decisions. His continued involvement across multiple sectors enables him to advocate for practical solutions that strengthen both workers and the industries they support.
Throughout more than three decades of service, Martire has shown that effective labor leadership requires engagement beyond traditional union responsibilities. By participating in workforce planning, education initiatives, and regional policy discussions, he has helped reinforce LIUNA’s mission while contributing to stronger labor representation and sustainable economic development across the Mid-Atlantic.
