As vice president and mid-Atlantic regional manager of the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA), Dennis L. Martire is a powerful advocate for workers. Since taking on this elected role in 2002, he has represented LIUNA across numerous boards and committees, ensuring the organization’s influence in both community and industry settings.

A Career of Advocacy

Martire’s journey with LIUNA began in 1990 as an international representative, following his graduation from West Virginia Wesleyan College. A member of Local Union #1058 in Pittsburgh, he quickly advanced to roles like assistant director and director of the construction department. By 2000, he was assistant regional manager, setting the stage for his current leadership position.

Leading with Influence

Martire’s board memberships include chairing the Mid-Atlantic Laborers’ Employees Cooperation and Education Trust, the Mid-Atlantic Regional Organization Coalition, and the Mid-Atlantic Laborers’ Political League. He also serves as a trustee on entities like the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority and the Service Contract and Education and Training Trust Fund. These roles allow him to shape policies that benefit workers and strengthen LIUNA’s presence.

Martire’s advocacy extends to grassroots efforts, such as securing fair wage laws in Maryland and leading the unionization of workers on Virginia’s Route 495 project. His ability to balance high-level representation with on-the-ground impact underscores his versatility as a leader.
