Dennis L. Martire’s Dedication to Worker Advocacy and Labor Progress

For more than 30 years, Dennis L. Martire has dedicated his career to advancing the interests of working men and women across the Mid-Atlantic region. Through his leadership with the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA), he has consistently focused on improving wages, workplace conditions, training opportunities, and employee representation.
Born in the Pittsburgh area of Pennsylvania in 1964, Martire developed a strong connection to the labor community early in life. His commitment to workers was reinforced through his membership in Local Union #1058, where he gained firsthand insight into the value of union representation and collective action.
After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Government from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1986, Martire began building a professional path centered on labor advocacy. In 1990, he joined LIUNA as an international representative in the jurisdictional disputes department. This position allowed him to address workplace concerns and contribute to solutions that benefited workers throughout the organization.
As the years progressed, Martire earned promotions that reflected both his expertise and dedication. He served as assistant director and later director of the Laborers’ Construction Department before advancing to assistant regional manager for the Mid-Atlantic Region in 2000.
His leadership achievements culminated in 2002 when he was elected vice president and regional manager of LIUNA’s Mid-Atlantic Region. Since then, he has played a critical role in guiding labor initiatives across multiple states, helping workers secure stronger protections and better opportunities.
One of the defining characteristics of Martire’s leadership is his commitment to practical outcomes. Rather than focusing solely on policy discussions, he has worked directly on initiatives that deliver measurable benefits. These efforts include advocating for prevailing wage protections, supporting unionization campaigns, and expanding workforce development programs.
Worker education remains an especially important area of focus. Through LIUNA’s training initiatives, employees gain access to valuable skills that improve job performance, workplace safety, and long-term career advancement opportunities. These programs create benefits not only for workers but also for employers seeking qualified and productive teams.
In addition to his union responsibilities, Dennis L. Martire contributes to numerous boards, trusts, and advisory organizations. His participation helps ensure that labor perspectives remain part of broader conversations involving workforce development, transportation, and economic growth.
Throughout his career, Martire has remained committed to creating opportunities for workers to succeed. Whether advocating for better wages, promoting training initiatives, or supporting stronger workplace representation, his efforts have consistently focused on improving outcomes for laborers and their families. As the workforce continues to evolve, Martire’s experience and dedication remain valuable assets to LIUNA and the communities it serves. His long-standing commitment to worker advocacy continues to leave a positive mark on the Mid-Atlantic region.
